In May 2008, most major U.S. carriers began charging a $15 to $25 fee for checking in a second piece of luggage. Some airlines went one step further with a $15 charge for your first checked-in bag. In most cases, the additional fees apply to Domestic (and Canadian) itineraries only and are exempt for First and Business class tickets and Elite level frequent fliers
